We understand. There are a lot of assisted living choices out there for you and your loved one. So what makes Autumn Leaves so unique? For one, Autumn Leaves is assisted living dedicated solely to memory care. We are staffed with certified community managers and nurses who are trained to specifically work with those who are living with dementia and Alzheimer’s. Most assisted living communities offer generalized assisted services. There are some that accommodate both Alzheimer’s residents and non-Alzheimer’s residents. Autumn Leaves is different. We have only one focus: caring for individuals and families coping with dementia. This is all by design.
Because we care exclusively for people with dementia, we design our assisted living communities differently. The hallways are wider, with varied cutouts to encourage the residents to continue down the corridor to their rooms. The lighting is brighter and more soothing to reduce the effects of “sundowning”–a phenomenon that occurs when the person with Alzheimer’s becomes anxious as the sun sets. The dining room comes with a large tropical fish tank based on studies that dementia residents have better appetites if they can watch fish swim during mealtimes.
